Ingrid Sowle, a member of Fire Medic Company #1, was killed, while on duty, February 19, 1990
Fire Medic Sowle had responded to an auto accident on Roslyn West Shore Drive. Following the auto accident she was struck by a drunk driver while walking back to her vehicle. She was later pronounced dead at North Shore University Hospital. An off duty Port Washington Police Officer chased and apprehended the drunk driver.
Sowle was born in Berlin, Germany in 1937 and emigrated to America at the age of 16 years old. She is remembered as a selfless person and a dedicated member of the department.
