🔥 Fire Safety for Older Adults 🔥People ages 65 and older face a much higher risk of dying in a fire due to physical or mental impairments, certain medications, smoking, and unsafe housing conditions.⚠️ Did you know?➡️ In 2020, adults 65+ in the U.S. had a 2.5x greater risk of dying in a fire than the general population.➡️ Risk increases with age:• Ages 65–74: 2.2x greater risk (41% increase since 2014)• Ages 75–84: 2.9x greater risk• Ages 85+: highest fire death risk of all age groups✅ Fire Safety Tips for Older Adults & Caregivers• Make and practice an escape plan—ask neighbors, family, or building managers for help if needed.• Ensure walkers or wheelchairs fit through exit doors.• Use smoke alarms with strobe lights or bed shakers if hearing is a concern.• Caregivers should test alarms regularly for those unable to do so.• Never smoke near medical oxygen.• Use a timer to remind you when cooking.👵👴 Protecting older adults means planning ahead—because every second counts.#FireSafety #OlderAdults #FirePrevention ...
