Facilities |
The Port Washington Fire Department
also maintains a number of firehouses that are strategically
placed throughout the district to ensure adequate response times
to all portions. These firehouses provide many functions
including storage of apparatus, administrative work, personnel
duty/sleep quarters, as well as emergency shelters/operation
centers.We presently
maintain seven buildings within the district. These facilities
include:

Port
Washington Fire Department Headquarters
"Headquarters"
423 Port Washington Boulevard
Located at the
southern end of the district, this building serves
as the Administrative office for the Chiefs as well as
the Port Washington Fire Department Board of Directors
("Fireboard")
Additionally, the garage is used to house apparatus as
needed to cover the
southern end of the district.
Interesting Fact:
Fire Medic Company No. 1 operated out of this facility
for the first 12 years of their existence until 1991 when
they
moved to their own building on Harbor Road.

Atlantic
Hook and Ladder Co. 1 Headquarters
"Company #1 Mainhouse"
25 Carlton Avenue
Located just off
Main Street, this building serves
as headquarters to PWFD's "Truck Company"
This building also serves as the "daytime response"
building, all members respond to this location during
daytime hours.
Apparatus from both engine companies, as well as the truck
company, are located here.
Interesting Fact:
This current firehouse was built in 1993, replacing the
original firehouse that was over 100 years old. Atlantic's
original firehouse
was listed in a number of "haunted houses" books, and many
members tell stories of strange noises and events from
various parts
of the building.

Protection Engine Company No. 1 Headquarters
"Company #2 Mainhouse"
South Washington Street
Located just off
Main Street, this building serves
as headquarters to one of PWFD's two "Engine Companies"
Interesting Fact:
This building has existed in Port Washington since the early
1900s,
and was renovated during the seventies to accommodate
today's larger
fire apparatus.

Hill Hose Company No. 1 Headquarters
"Company #3 Mainhouse"
Haven Avenue
Located next to
the Port Washington Long Island Rail Road station,
this building servers as headquarters to PWFD's other
"Engine Company"
Interesting Fact:
This building has just finished an extensive renovation
project designed
to accommodate the company's growth and newer, larger fire
apparatus.
Like Protection's, this firehouse dates back to the early
1900s.

Fire
Medic Company No. 1
"Company #4 Mainhouse"
65 Harbor Road
Located opposite
the beautiful Mill Pond, this building serves as
headquarters to PWFD's "EMS" Company. This particular
facility
was designed with the different needs of an EMS company,
specifically,
one that is conducive to housing personnel on a 24 hour
basis.
Interesting Fact:
This building was once a neon light factory. Fire Medic
Company No. 1
purchased the building in 1989 and renovated the original
standing structure.
Fire Medic Company No. 1 began operating out of the building
on July 1,
1991.

Hook & Ladder Co. 1 Annex
"Company #1 Annex"
Avenue A
Located in the
terrace section of Port Washington, this building
accommodates
those truck company members living in the northern part of
the peninsula. This
building supplements the apparatus stored at the Company No.
1 Mainhouse.
Interesting Fact:
The trucks stored at this building are known as the "Terrace
Terrors".

Protection Engine Co. 1 Annex
"Company #2 Annex"
Channel Drive
Located off
Shore Road, this building accommodates those members living
in the Manorhaven and Port Washington North sections of
town.
Interesting Fact:
This building is often jokingly referred to as the "Manorhaven
Annex", referring
to the large number of members we have living in and
responding
from the Village of Manorhaven.
