(More)…]]> At around 1:26pm on March 14th, 2013, the PWFD initiated signal 10 procedures for a working structure fire on 1 Herbert Ave.

Detectives from the Nassau County Police Department have determined the fire started due to workers on the roof improperly using blow torches.

Special thanks to all of the neighboring departments who assisted the PWFD in fighting the fire and covering Port Washington.

(More)…]]> At around 3 p.m. on December 31st, 2012, the Port Washington Fire Department responded to a working house fire in the Village of Sands Point.

The Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department provided mutual aid to the scene with a F.A.S.T. team and ambulance. The Roslyn Highlands Fire Company and the Plandome Fire Department provided standby coverage for Port Washington during the incident.

(More)…]]> On the night of 18 December to 19 December 2012 the PWFD provided a mutual aid FAST truck, 8522, to the Great Neck Alert Fire Company. The Signal 10, working fire alarm, was transmitted around 2015 on the 18th. The building was a house under construction on Bayport Lane in Great Neck.

A FAST, firefighter assist and search team, is a form of a rapid intervention crew intended to aid or help other firefighters in trouble. Mutual aid was also provided by the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department, Fire Department City of New York, and the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company.

(More)…]]> This past summer the PWFD was joined by Nassau County Legislator Wayne H. Wink Jr., of the 11th Legislative District, at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy.

Training both in Port Washington and at the Fire Service Academy is a regular part of a volunteer firefighter’s duties. The Fire Service Academy in Bethpage allows for firefighters to train, in live burn evolutions, in buildings ranging from high-rise towers, commercial shopping centers, MTA rail-road cars, and tractor trailers.

(More)…]]> At around 9am on July 12, 2012 the PWFD responded to a commercial fire at 666 Port Washington Boulevard.

Units operated on the roof of the building in order to locate the fire and extinguish it. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature.

The PWFD was asssisted by mutual aid units from Manhasset-Lakeville, Plandome, and Roslyn.

(More)…]]> Port Washington Volunteers responded to a multiple motor vehicle accident on July 3rd, 2012.

The accident occurred on Shore Road in the vicinity of Columbia Place.

Emergency medical technicians from Fire Medic Company #1 transported four victims with non-life threatening injuries to the hospital.

Firefighters from Atlantic Hook and Ladder Company #1 prevented automotive fluids from entering Manhasset Bay by deploying petroleum absorbents.

During the accident there was an additional aided alarm with Fire Medic Company #1′s third ambulance responding.
